After 24 hours stuck in a hotel room with 20 inches of blowing, drifting snow shutting down the Second City outside my window, I needed to get out. So I took my lap top down to the lobby of the Residence Inn and decided to work there for an hour or two just for the change of scenery.
With a hotel full of stranded travellers, the staff decided to put out lunch which was very thoughtful. It wasn't much, hot dogs with peppers and onions, chips, soft drinks - relatively picked over by time I got there.
The lobby TV was playing Cartoon Network while two little kids, looked to be 1st or 2nd graders, were just wandering around, no parents in sight. Although I had remote access to the company I'm here to work with my focus quickly became somewhat spotty and deteriorating by the second. Finally, I had a bit of a gag when I realized the two boys were eating a large bowl of potato salad with their hands!
After watching for a few minutes, I closed my laptop, forced back the vomit I felt bubbling up my throat and retreated back to my boring room.
